Q.What is the philosophy of Alcander Ltd and the Alcander.com web site?

A. To provide the means to make your web site extremely successful, either by means of a D-I-Y approach or through our consultancy service. The KnowledgeBase and articles (on web promotion and customer retention) are organised so you can see what is going to work best for promoting your site and form the basis for the D-I-Y side (along with the catalogue of Webmaster Resources).

Q. What selection criteria does Alcander employ when deciding which resources to list in the Webmaster Resources section?

A. We use several of them (such as WebPosition Gold and WordTracker) to promote this web site. Several of the Customer Retention ones are featured on this site e.g. the forum (Alborior's Encore Web Forum II), the site search (Kscript.com's KSearch). Many of the resources are also used by our consultancy services. Many of the resources have won awards. If we experience any deficiencies we exclude them from the resources section.

Q. What are the future plans for the web site?

A. We are working on a) improving the Knowledge Base so you have more control over how the information will be displayed i.e. you will be able to view all terms, just web promotion terms etc. and also control the order the terms are displayed i.e. most significant first, alphabetical order and so on. b) extending the selection of articles and web masters' resources. c) upgrading the forum so it will have more features. We will also be reacting to your feedback. In general, the site will be maintained in line with developments in the world of web promotion and customer retention.

Q. Do you offer any web promotion services?

A. Yes. See our Consultancy Services page.

Q. Why are you called Alcander? Does it mean anything?

A. It is a person's name, with Greek origin - meaning strong. We chose it as our company name as we are committed to being strong in our field.

Q. Do you use any of the Web Master Resources yourselves? Are any featured on this web site?

A. This site is being promoted with WebPosition Gold and WordTracker, amongst others. The forum is an implementation of Aborior's EncoreLite. (to be upgraded to the full Encore Forum II imminently). The site search is an implementation of Kscript.com's KSearch. We are working on adding more resources to the collection of Webmasters' resources, many of which will be featured on this site.

Q. You do not seem to include any in depth discussion of the search engines e.g. details on how to optimise for particular search engines. Why is that?

A. We recommend a product called WebPosition Gold for optimising for the major search engines. One of the great things about this product is that it makes it unnecessary to delve into the intricate details on how the major search engines index sites. WebPosition Gold is the first tool that enables Web site owners and managers to systematically improve their Web site's relevance for keyword and phrase queries in the major search engines. Traditionally, this has required long hours of trial and error, as well as poring over dozens of how-to guides and newsletters.

Q. Why do you have an International version of your site and a UK specific version? What are the differences between the two versions?

A. Currently, there is little difference between the two versions apart from adjusting the spelling for an American audience on the International version. Some wording may also differ to suit each audience. By doing this we are also optimising the site for the appropriate audience, especially as there is a high tendency for people to want to find us using the keyphrase "search engine optimisation", the spelling of which varies for the two audiences. The UK-specific version still caters for webmasters wanting to reach a U.S. or International audience. However, as this site evolves, the UK version will contain more and more information for Webmasters with UK sites wanting to market specifically to the UK in addition to the International information. The "UK to UK" information will be labelled with the UK flag so it stands out from the International information.

In summary, if you don't want to see the information for Webmasters with UK sites marketing specifically to the UK market, then stay on the International site.
