...Directories for Search Engines
We list some key directories (below) which are recommended for submission of your website details. Our very own tool - LinkEyes - is also very powerful for finding relevant directories as well as local directories. Getting listed on key local directories helps with your local search optimisation.
A word of warning: Before submitting to any directory, check that it is not a link farm or a 'bad neighbourhood'. Some checks you can make are:
- Does the directory rank well on Google for its own name e.g. if the domain is www.zoppledoodirectory.com, can it be found for zoppledoodirectory?
- If it costs to get a listing, then a) note Google's warning about 'paid for' links and b) if it offers extra links or a premium placement for an extra charge, then such bait is frowed upon (very much) by Google
- Does it accept any website under the sun? If so, avoid. Check who's included on the site, and make sure your virus checker is up to date before you do!
